Like a child attending his first class at school I felt excited and at the site time nervous thinking what I would look like in front of my teacher and my yoga classmates. Imagine a 51 years old with arthritis, frozen shoulder, trigger finger and diabetes doing those Yoga poses?

It is a good thing that I arrive early because for I was able to talk with Teacher Ajita and told her my condition.

Like all seasoned Yoga teacher she assured me that I could do all the poses in due time with constant practice. That I could do things in my own pace and reach only poses that I can.

First part was a breathing exercises. Warm up exercises followed that I have enjoyed doing because it feels good on my joints and muscles.

Then standing poses for beginner followed. I can’t imagine myself not being able to stand in one leg while stretching my other leg even for 5 seconds. Our Teacher Ajita keep reminding us that it was alright for us first timers if we can’t do it just keep on trying.

After an hour and a few poses more I could feel my muscles trembling as if telling me that I have made a wrong decision this time. I have been perspiring profusely and catching my breath as if I have joined a marathon.

I just psyche myself that retreating at this point is not in my vocabulary. 30 minutes more and the session will be over. Fight! Fight! Fight! Mon, you can do it.

Whew! I was greatly relieve when Teacher Ajita told us that it was now time to relax by doing the Corpse pose.

I nearly fall asleep in this pose due to exhaustion.

All in all I could say that my first day at Yoga class is an experience I would never forget. I survived!
