When the Smart Go Mail service of Smart Communication was launched a couple of months back I guess a lot of people got excited.
Unlimited push mail on any phone with a very affordable price of P20.00 per day and P199.00 for 30 days. It is compatible with the most popular email providers such as Yahoo!, Gmail, Windows Live!, Hotmail, and Facebook via RSS Feeds
Who needs Blackberry now with this kind of service.
A lot of website have already posted their review about this Smart service but this story is based on actual account of me and my friend.
A friend of mine Eric who always needs to communicate through email with his brother who was based in China was very excited about this service. Emailing would be the cheapest form of communication and because he can’t go online most of the time, this “Go Mail” service of Smart is heaven sent for him. He is always busy and on the road most of the time so that the exchanges of text messages between the two of them have been be very expensive on both side. They needed to update each other about the business that they are trying to put up.
He is the first to enroll and I followed suit after two weeks. At first he is very happy because the service is fantastically updating him of his emails frequently. He could received even his facebook messages. He could also reply via email using only his phone.
Prior to his enrollment we visited one Smart Communication wireless center to inquire about this service. The lady acting as customer service representative explained how the emails would reach his phone? That there would be no additional “gprs” charges as long as he won’t use it to surf the “net”. They checked the list of phone that can avail the service and his HTC unit was in the list.
Satisfied with the explanations that he got, he asked the help of the “CS” how to enroll. And the rest is history as they say.
Three weeks after his enrollment he received a text message coming from Smart informing him that he have to settle his bill of P5,000.00 or his account would be redirected for exceeding his credit limit. So to cut this story short, he learned that the amount of P4,000.00 were “gprs” charges. Of course he contested his bill and a compromise was agreed upon.
He was instructed to renew his subscription and was given the proper way how to enroll. He was given the assurance that this time he won’t be billed with the “gprs” unless he would use it for surfing.
We were able to talk yesterday morning when I received by bill for the month of May. I was billed with P1,700.00 on “gprs” charges that I did not used for surfing. I was lucky that my bill is only such amount because I turned off my smart settings upon learning of his situation. When I asked him if his problem was solved, he gave me a big laughed and told me that his “gprs” charges for this month is P6,000.00.
Smart Go Mail service is a joke and we are not laughing.
Anybody out there who have the same problem? Please leave your comment and be counted. hahaha!

tsk! that’s all I can say haha… tapos, kapag magko-complain ka, dadaanin ka sa kung anu-anong technicalities.
one good about this is that, nakapag-blog ka ulit Sir Mon hehe…
thanks for the info.
(buti na lang hindi ako smart… smarter ako hehehe…)
Hello Roy, ganun na nga nangyari. Baka daw may virus htc phone namin etc. Talagang may good and bad ang lahat ng bagay ano? Thanks for dropping by.
Partner, is that you? I am glad you’re back…
I am somehow glad that I am not using Smart anymore, kasi nagrerent pa rin ako e…
Happy Father’s Day!
Hi.
I subscribed to Smart’s go Mail and so far, I am happy with it.
I had initial problems setting up my phone since I use a Nexus One and the customer service is not familiar with it. They even said my unit was not supported but I tried and succeeded registering my phone.
Got my first bill already and was only charged 199, as advertised. I had to disable my GPRS so as not to incur additional charges, though. Maybe the problem is in the automatic GPRS connection?
thanks.
D
Hi! Dyap, thanks for dropping by and for giving your comment. It is good to hear that you were able to disable your GPRS.
Their customer service representative were not familiar even with their promo. It is like playing Russian roulette when you subscribe to this Smart Go Mail. One CS even told me that maybe my phone had a virus. That I have to go to HTC service center and have my phone checked for any third party settings. They should have told us that matter before they let us subscribe because we inquire in their wireless center prior joining the promo.
I keep on thinking kanino ko kasi narinig ung fatherlyours. I remember kay sir roy po pala.
Actually sir, diko na try pa yan kasi marami narin ako nabasa. Mas convenient sa akin dalhin nalang cellphone ko at makifree wifi nalang heheheh…
i am glad to know about this. smart is really not living up to its name.its dull.
That is the irony of it all. Wishing it could help you but it turn out to be a burden on your shoulder. Anyway, thanks for the information at least I know what smart go mail is all about.
My cousin recommended this blog and she was totally right keep up the fantastic work!
Your right, one Customer Service representative called me up explaining a lot of things that it seems to me that it was my fault why I subscribe to their Smart go mail. I have to go to HTC service center to have my phone checked for a third party software that causes my phone to automatically connect to GPRS. My God, in my almost 1 year of using my phone that month is the only time my phone have that kind oh problem. That my phone was not provided by Smart, but their promo says “any phone”.Roy is right, Smart would resort to using all kinds of technicalities.
Hello Jennifer, your right. It turned out that it is my fault for subscribing with Smart Go mail without having my phone checked first. But we went to their wireless center 2 times clarifying about the charging of gprs. Their personnel assured us that we would not be billed unless we used them for surfing. Bahala na si Lord. hehehe
That is quite unfortunate! I guess we should be careful of offers from these network communication companies unless we hear good feedback from a close friend. I still remember the offer by Smart before of some Txt100 but little did we know it would cancel our call feature (I’m talking about the era when autoload and Smart 30 was still not available) … Kaya di na ako agad nagtitiwala, try muna. Good to know we can still access internet even during brownouts and network interruption. I’ve tried tinkering with my Nokia old phone then I found out it had internet feature, wow! yun nga lang it’s like piso per minute and it’s slooow. But if it’s important, then I consider it handy
anu ba yan? labo.. did you pay your bills pa din?
dapat indi nyo binayaran..
Buti n lng pla at nabasa ko post mo. I was planning on telling my mother to get one…Thank you for sharing.
A Mom’s Note
Caloy, yes I have to pay my bill baka putulan ako ng line eh.
Lira, my friends bill was reduced by P 2,000.00 but still they insist that the phone’s setting is the problem.
Well, this is another manifestation of a corporate foolishness. Do they really think we the consumers would just smile and say thank you to what they are doing to us?
Don’t they aware that people now have all the means to express our angst and dissatisfaction against them?
To Smart: When will you be smarter than my stupid dog?
Tom, I Love your comment. Thanks for sharing your view.
