One thing I admire with our MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) Chairman and upcoming presidential aspirant Mr. Bayani Fernando is that he never gets tired or thinking ways to improve not only our traffic system but also for the safety of Metro folks . He undertakes the beautification of the metropolis with his Metro Guapo project.

Remember the pink fences that receive a lot of flack from different sectors of our society but in fairness it somehow helps in keeping order in our major roads and hi-ways.

MDA Today. Well-known for his work as Mayor of Marikina City, Bayani Fernando was then appointed as Chairman of the MMDA. He launched the “Metro Gwapo” drive to start the advocacy of turning Metro Manila to the pride of the Philippines as its capital. He created the Sidewalk Clearing Operations Department, which aimed to clear all sidewalks from illegal structures. Among these are the sidewalks of the North Luzon Central Market (Cloverleaf Market) in Balintawak, Quezon City. The national government saved money because of his decision to change the design of some existing intersections by installing numerous U-turn slots and steel pedestrian overpasses, which he called “footbridges“. Metro Manila became notable for becoming the Asian metropolis with a unique male sidewalk urinal. Among the 17 cities and municipalities of Metro Manila, the City of Makati and the municipality of San Juan disapprove of Fernando’s proposals. As a result, these locations do not have major MMDA projects constructed nor deputized traffic enforcers.

His latest project is dubbed as “Trip Tracker”. To help those commuting passengers fight abusive drivers of different PUV passenger. It would also serve as a tool for crime prevention by texting the plate number and name of PUV to a dedicated Smart and Globe communication hotline number. This system would make taxi drivers in particular think twice before committing a crime.

Those sent information would be stored in their data base for future reference for tracing the culprit. The information drive for this program is now being planned.
