An Open Challenge for Manny Pacquaio

I find the story that run on the front page junior Inquirer today, July 5, 2009 written by Ruth Navarro titled ” A Challenge from a Champ” very interesting that was why I am posting it here.

A 6 year old boy named Stephen Rome Pangilinan came home from Las Vegas and won a gold medal in Susan Polgar World Open (Las Vegas International Chess Festival). The event was held last June 6- 7, 2009. Winning from his opponents all over the world in the under 8  category is already quite an achievement.

“I (would) like to face Manny because I saw him on television play chess before his fight,” say Stephen.

“I also want to play against chess master Wesley So,” he says “He’s got a lot of (chess) points and he’s very good.

“Ginamit ko po ang pamatay kong opening (I used my killer opening.),” was how he explained his feat during interviews with the local media. Moreover, Stephen issued a “challenge” to the boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio to a slugfest over the chessboard. Whether he was coached on this or not, it is a good go-getter move. Pacquaio, the most celebrated Filipino boxer of all times, reputedly enjoys the 64-squared boxing–having someone so young challenge him to a game might sparkle more than a passing interest. If the Pacman bites, I can see sponsorship and Pacquiao International Chess Tournament at store.

For the mean time, the big question is this:
Will Manny Pacquaio accept the challenge?
